a-ha - " The Sun Always Shines On TV " from the album Hunting High And Low (1985) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 8 Today's Song of the Day is by the Norwegian new wave trio a-ha , who claimed a worldwide smash with the song with the innovative animated/live video " Take On Me ". For its follow-up the band released the frenetic and typically Scandinavian dark nuance of "The Sun Always Shines On TV". Written by the group's guitarist, Pal Waaktaar, the record again featured the dramatic vocals and striking good looks of lead singer Morten Harket in the video, which continues the plot from "Take On Me"... "The Sun Always Shines..." became a-ha's second and final top-40 pop hit in the U.S. in February of 1986. The record did even better in the discos, peaking at #6 on Billboard 's dance club play list (their first hit and biggest). Internationally, it was their first #1 single in Br...

James Brown - " Living In America " from the albums Rocky IV (Original Soundtrack) and Gravity (1986) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 11 Today's Song of the Day comes from the Godfather of Soul himself, the hardest-working man in show business, the late James Brown , who's legacy in the history of R&B music is quite secure, with over a hundred charting singles on the soul and pop charts in Billboard magazine, as well as a string of classic album still being used as samples today. Born in South Carolina, Brown's first appearance on the charts came back in 1956, with his ballad " Please Please Please " which climbed to #5 on the R&B chart. Two years later, he put his next big hit " Try Me " on the pop chart at #48, while the record topped the soul chart. James started the next decade with his first top-40 hit, " Think " (#33), but it wouldn't be until 1965, when his breakthrough pop hi...

Corey Hart - " Everything In My Heart " from the album Boy In The Box (1985) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #30 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 7 Today's Song of the Day is brought to us from hunky Canadian pop singer Corey Hart , whose sophomore album Boy In The Box had given him his biggest hit, " Never Surrender ", as well as a top-30 follow-up with the title track . For the third single from the project Corey released the ballad "Everything In My Heart", a straight-up love song written by the artist and produced by Mike Chapman and Jon Astley... "Everything In My Heart" became the third top-40 pop hit from Boy In The Box in the U.S. in February of 1986, while also sneaking on to the adult contemporary radio chart in Billboard for a few weeks peaking at #39.
