Single Life...July 4, 2006

I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone, and along with the chart post the singles for the week. Bunny Rugs - "Now That We Found Love" (Norty's In The Club Mix) Bascially this is a speed-up of the former member of Third World's reggae take on the O'Jays classic. Not bad, but I still will go for the Heavy D any day of the week. Andy Bell - "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" (Goetz Extended Mix) This almost makes me wonder why this couldn't be an Erasure release. Very retro, like cribbed right off of Erasure 's "Breath Of Life". Which isn't a bad thing. Basically their songs veer to either campy or dramatic. This is on the dramatic side. Muse - "Supermassive Black Hole" a sadly overlooked band here in the states, Muse is wildly popular in the UK. Here they channel glam-rock goodness in a shiny new wrapper. Reminds me of the Collective Soul record from last year. With any justice, will be big here. Awesome r...

The Internet for Dummies...

Image
If you didn't know, there's a Net Neutrality Bill being hawked in Congress which would prohibit internet providers from prioritizing some internet traffic over others. If you think that that would include reasoned debate, behold Senator/Resident Loon Ted Stevens: Link : Ten of them streaming across that internet and what happens to your own personal internet? I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the internet commercially. ... They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the internet. And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and its going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material...

Old Man River....

(courtesy CNN) Thankfully the flooding here isn't as bad as originally anticipated. However, it's quite a reminder that the whole "Global Warming is just an opinion" spin is a load of crap. By the way I was just in that parking lot in Easton PA on Friday. Scary.

And the girl in the corner, let no one ignore her, cuz she thinks she's the passionate one...

I love this band. In the 70's beyond your Led Zep's and your Who's, there were a ton of everyman rock bands out there. Sweet combined the theatricality of Queen with the pop sensabilities of band like the Raspberries. Hugely successful in England, the band had a respectable string of hits in America as well. However, unlike other bands that have been anthologized over and over again, Sweet 's legacy usually is a track on a "best of the 70's" collection hawked on overnight TV. Captiol Records issued The Best Of Sweet as par of their budget "Ten Best" series. It's got most of their biggest hits (except "Little Willy", which was on another label), and doesn't have a bad moment. Worth the price of admission alone is the 7 minute version of "Love Is Like Oxygen", which is the pinnacle of power-pop. The song evolves from a simple chorus chant and goes into prog-rock territory. Also standing out is "Ballroom Bli...

Happy Gay-Veggie Pride!
