twostepcub's music chart for July 22, 2011...
Hey folks, after a 106 degree day today I'm glad to be home in air conditioning, and it's time for my tunes for the week. This week LMFAO spend a fifth week at the top, while Pitbull and Ne-Yo (pictured above) climb within the top-10. Songs by Foo Fighters, Adele, and Swedish House Mafia make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ highlighted in red), while former big hits by Rise Against, Michael Jackson, Lady GaGa, and My Chemical Romance drop out. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artists' names to go to their website (rightclick and you can use another window or tab and leave this up). Here we go...

This week there are eight new entries on my list (highlighted in yellow), and here they are, with links to the artists' other hits in orange. And away we go...
The highest debut belongs to Wynter Gordon, who first got exposure from co-writing and singing on Flo Rida's top-10 hit "Sugar". Last year she topped the US dance charts and this year lingered in the British top-40 with the song "Dirty Talk", and the followup is already in the dance top-5. Here's "Til Death"...
The next entry is the song I feel Beyonce should have released first from her latest CD 4. While "Run The World (Girls)" finally got a tepid response from her performance on the Billboard Music Awards (and a diva-token #1 Dance hit placing), "The Best Thing I Never Had" has that needed drama that rivals her past hits like "Irreplaceable" and "If I Were A Boy"...
And now for the second most successful Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland. After a #1 hit with Nelly, "Dilemma", Kelly has settled for a lower-key career with a few dance and international hits, including the worldwide jam of 2009, "When Love Takes Over" with David Guetta. This year she can boast a bigtime R&B hit that has outperformed her friend Beyonce's, "Motivation" (which is bubbling under my list). Debuting on my chart, though, is another DJ collaboration, this time with Italian DJ Alex Gaudino, who has scored two previous top-10 pop hits in the UK with "I'm In Love (I Wanna Do It)" and "Destination Calabria" (the latter with Crystal Waters). The result is the anthemic "What A Feeling"...
Country hunk Rodney Atkins is a good example of tenacity, with his debut album producing a top-10 hit with "Honesty" on his third single. That paid off with his sophomore effort, which gave Atkins four #1 hits in a row, including 2006's top Billboard country hit, "If You're Going Through Hell". His latest ode to escapism is "Take A Back Road"...
Next up is Kelli, who appeared on the Bravo "docudrama"-faux reality show NYC Prep, which means that I shouldn't like this auto-tuned mess as much as I do. Damn you, cool production!
Speaking of "reality" shows, here's the winner and runner-up to Germany's version of the
Idol franchise, Deutschland sucht den Superstar. Pietro Lombardi already was seen on my chart with his winner's song, "Call My Name", and now the two pair up for "I Miss You"...
Singer-songwriter Mat Kearney scored his biggest hit so far with his first, the adult-pop top-10 single "Nothing Left To Lose" in 2006. His latest is just climbing that same chart, and it's with the bubbly "Hey Mama"...
The final entry is another Idol franchise winner, this time from the American version's seventh season, David Cook. After winning, Cook has made the US top-40 with six singles, most successfully with the top-3 "Time Of My Life". His latest, from his top-10 sophomore CD This Loud Morning, is "The Last Goodbye"...
Now get to bed, pardner!
