twostepcub's music chart for June 10, 2011...

Hey folks, the new nephew is finally here, and I've got a small respite for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week Adele has her fifth week at the #1 spot, while British prodigy Jessie J (pictured above) finally makes it into the top-10. The biggest jumps come from songs by Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, and Foster The People (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red), while former big hits by Katy Perry, Kenny Chesney, and Taylor Swift (again) drop out. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artist names to go to their website for bios, tour dates, videos, music, and more. Goo Goo GaGa...

This week there are five new songs debuting on my chart (new songs highlighted in yellow), and I've included previous hits in links in orange. Let's go...

The highest new song this week is by the Zac Brown Band, who have taken the jam-band/country-rock genre and lifted it to a new level. They've had six #1 country hits, including "Chicken Fried" which made the pop top-20, and "Colder Weather", which made #1 on my own chart. On their latest the band gets a little help by King Parrothead, Jimmy Buffett, whose signature song, "Margaritaville", was a pop top-10 hit in 1977. Although his style hasn't gotten much play on rock or pop stations since the early 80s, Buffett maintains a huge fan base, as well as being embraced by country radio, where he scored a #1 assist with Alan Jackson on "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere". Their collaboration cribs the feeling from Buffett's hits as well as a shot of Brown's "Toes". They go a little anatomically higher with "Knee Deep"...

Next up is Aussie neo-New Wave rockers Neon Trees, whose first single, "Animal", was a multiformat smash, and a featured cover on Glee. Their latest is getting play on adult top-40, as well as being featured in the teen movie Prom. Here's "Your Surrender"...

London-based indie folk rock band Noah & The Whale had a top-10 hit with "5 Years Time" in 2008, but it only took three years to score another top-10 hit at British radio with a more pop-sounding "Tonight's The Kind Of Night"...

Fitz & The Tantrums are from Los Angeles, and their take on R&B-inflected rock pays off with their first top-40 hit on adult top-40 and rock radio, and #2 on triple-A (Adult Alternative). It's a great song and video, and it's about a "Money Grabber"...

The final debut is by the winner of Germany's Deutschland sucht den Superstar, which is their version of American Idol. German/Italian Pietro Lombardi sang mostly English-language tunes, like Jay Sean's "Down", so it's fitting his "winner's song" is also in English, and it's called "Call My Name", with appropriately schlager-epic video...

And that's all I got. So get some sleep, it's day-shift time!
