twostepcub's music chart for May 21, 2010...
Hey folks, another week gone and time for my top tunes for the week. This week Rihanna spends a second week on top, while English R&B star Taio Cruz (pictured above) jumps into the top-3. Link-O-Rama is in effect, so you can click on the highlighted name of any artist to go to their website. Rightclick, and you can bring it up in another tab or window. Plant on!

This week eleven new songs enter my chart, while one comes back strong. The highest is by Julissa Veloz, who was yet another American Idol alumnus, however she didn't last beyond Hollywood week last year. She did gain the moniker "Tiara Girl" during Paula Abdul's wigout period, but now she's making a name in Clubland with the neo-freestyle dance track "Take Control"...
Next up is another dance act, Altar, who are Brazilian DJ's Macau and VMC. After hits like "Party People", "Everybody Up", and "Turn It Out" with Jeanie Tracy, the pair team with fellow countrywoman Amannda for "Can U Hear Me"...
French dance producer David Guetta's One Love album was one of last years best CDs, and while the fourth single, "Memories", is still climbing (and making my top-40), the fifth single debuts big. "Gettin' Over You" has been revamped to add Fergie and dance-rap duo LMFAO to the mix, along with Guetta's male vocalist of choice, Chris Willis...
Mr. Mariah Carey, I mean Nick Cannon's proteges, School Gyrls, have already scored a TV movie on Nickelodeon, and now have a club hit with it. It's "Something Like A Party"...
San Franciscans Train's comeback is going strong, as "Hey, Soul Sister" is still hanging around the top-20, while their followup, "If It's Love" debuts, and it's a winner just for the lines "flat like an Idol singer, remember Winger?"...
Next is Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas, with the third single from his sophomore solo album Cradlebox. Is it me, or it is a ringer for the Smashing Pumpkins' "1979"...
As you can see, I've been a dance music kind of mood, as yet another artist debuts, this time Samantha James, who previously made my top-40 with "Rise". Her new single is mixed by Kaskade, and it's dreamy. Here's "Waves Of Change"...
R&B flower-child Macy Gray is back, after four studio albums and a stint on "Dancing With The Stars" last year. In the US, she's been a "one-hit wonder" with "I Try", while in England she's done a little better, scoring five top-40 songs. Her newest single previewing her upcoming album The Sellout is a track that played on the finale of Ugly Betty. It's quite pretty, and it's "Beauty In The World"...
Speaking of reality shows, Simon Cowell's X Factor has produced its share of artists on my chart, and the latest is Diana Vickers, who came in fourth on that show. Her debut single is "Once", which has a cool video which I can't embed but you can see by clicking here, or see the homemade clip by someone else below...
Country singer Toby Keith is back with the third single form his 13th (!) studio album, American Ride. He always vacillates between upbeat and hokey, and somber and thoughtful, but it's back to hokey with "Every Dog Has Its Day"...
and finally, for something completely different. In fact, I don't know how many Americans would know who Mehrzad Marashi is, but the Iranian-German singer was the winner of German's answer to American Idol, "Deutschland Sucht den Superstar". He's from Hamburg, and his new single is "Don't Believe", where the clip was filmed in New York, and I quite like it..
