Song for the night (why aren't you watching Torchwood?)....

I love me some British shows, and my fave right now is the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood . It follows a Welsh X-Files-type institute investigating extraterrestials and paranormal occurances. The lead character, Jack Harkness, weaves in and out of storylines not unlike Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap . The one twist of note is that Harkness not only is immortal (happening with a death-resurrection plotline that has him usurping identity) but also matter-of-factly bisexual. My favorite episode is where Jack goes back and finds the man whose name he carries. By the end, Torchwood 's Jack has fallen for the real Jack Harness, and share a dance and kiss before he is forced to go back through the portal. It still gives me goosebumps. Well someone paired that episode with a beautiful Italian pop song called "Ostacoli Del Cuore", or Obstacles Of The Heart, by Elisa and Ligabue. It's a powerful song even without knowing the words... There a beginning of magic Between the obstac

That was the first thing I said after learning (from Sugarbear) about the passing of Tim Russert. As the political junkie that I am, Tim's career and work has had a profound effect on my knowledge of the political process. I may have had differences with his style at times, which probably spring from his desire to act so non-partisanally (as a former Democratic staffer) that it seemed almost like he overgrilled some, I cannot by any means disregard his ravenous quest for information and insight into the runnings of Washington. He also may have been a bit more enthralled with the "game" of politics at times, but he never talked down to the viewing audience, and always treated his guests with nothing but class, even when grilling them at their worst (example: see his ripdown interview of David Duke). Russert was one of the best in television journalism, on the level of Cronkite and Jennings. I thoroughly feel for his family, and only hope that he can now see at least from a

When I was a kid, I was freaked out by hair salons because the word "unisex" was always plastered all over. I mean imagine being like 8. What does that mean? What horrible things do they do to you for 15$? Do you really see that word anywhere else? It gave me the willies.

See You Next Tuesday of the week...

This week's honorary See You Next Tuesday award, given to the woman best breaking through the "glass sewer" of douchebaggery, goes to newly show-less Fox News host E.D. Hill. Most recently Ms. Hill is best known for suggesting that Barack and Michelle Obama's "victory fist bump" could be a "terrorist fist jab", introducing a story that doesn't even mention that phrase again. Ooooh, you gotta watch out for those "dark" folks, eh, Ms Hill (and yes, the "E.D." stands for "extra douchiness")? They're really signalling that their ready to give our freedoms to the other side. and boy, it seems like they're going to do it, since there's a lot of accomplices to help their evil plans.... Oh yeah and this... (thanks Mediamatters for catching these) I could bloviate forever about how stupid she is. I mean, she did offer up an apology afterwards, though really she explained that it wasn't her views but floati

Instructional film fun...

Almost peed my pants.

The right kind of speech...

Thank you, Hillary, for giving this much needed speech. There's been a lot of tension, but we all have one common goal. Peace out.

Old man yelling at cloud...

Last night had Barack Obama gave the speech that catapulted him squarely in the final race for the presidency. That same night, the Republicans for some crazy reason (maybe to steal some limelight or Clinton supporters?) shuttled John McCain into Louisiana to give a speech. Now mind, irony of ironies had befallen them, since the speech was preempted mid-ramble to announce Obama's reaching the required delegates (how's that for timing?), but either way that didn't detract from the utter suckfest that his "speech" was. Besides the visual impact of the yellowed rest-home teeth over a lime-green backdrop with only emphasized his pale complexion (and what the fuck is going on with the left eye there? I'm definitely thinking mild stroke) and a filmstrip wheeze of a voice, McCain's input into the "national discussion" involved him whining about not being Bush, and that he has the experience to lead America to better programs. Well, fucktard, where were

It's just the beginning

In case you missed it, the awesome speech by Barack Obama in Minneapolis, Minnesota last night. In retrospect, I'm thinking I was coloring Hillary Clinton's supporters sometimes with too broad a stroke (albeit being one former one myself). Not everyone who continues to support Clinton's campaign is like the "Harriet Christian" woman in the video. The media has failed in truly "dumbing down" the nomination process, though I will concede that many Americans carry the "ignorance is bliss" phrase too far. Either way, I do believe Hillary deserved to carry out her campaign to the end (with a surprising upset in South Dakota, mind), and be proud that she ran the first real viable campaign by a woman, and certainly not the last. Maybe it wasn't the idea of a woman running, but this woman running that kept one from winning the nomination.

See You Next Tuesday of the week...

Hey everyone! I'm slowly but surely getting back in the groove, and what better place to continue than this week's "Cee U Next Tuesday" winner. Leave it to the power of YouTube to convert an overheard rant reach cult status. I mean, this thing is up to over a million views! For background, the DNC Rules committee hearings were held this weekend to arbitrate the inclusion/expulsion of delegates of two states, Michigan and Florida, that violated the "first in the nation" rules of having no primaries or caucuses before the quartet of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina. Not just violated, but premeditatingly violated. Each state's Democratic association was warned specifically about the ability of the DNC to either reduce or strip altogether and delegate's voting power on the convention floor. Whereas both Michigan and Florida's change of placement at the start was predicated by the Republican-controlled state legislature ramming throug

New bloggy goodness!

Hey guys, I'm up way too late, but found a new toy. Thanks to the power of imeem , I have a little mixer of my top-100 songs (well, missing a couple) on the right of this blog, just hit the play button for continuous play. I'm trying to figure the quirks (and why some are just 30 seconds), but for now it's a good way to sample my top tunes, and if you like anything go buy them , whether it be the CD or at your friend e-music dealer (I'm preferable to Zune Marketplace right now). Cheers!

Hey everyone. Apologize for being out of action pretty much for the last few weeks, I've had to recoup from a whirlwind month between our rodeo and the board meetings in Oklahoma. I'm back, and pledging to be more frequent on here. I thank you all for listening to my rants for so long. Now before then, back to the matters at hand, and what better way by my "tunes of the week"....
