This week a whopping eleven new songs enter my countdown, and the highest is by French-Israeli chanteuse Yael Naim. You gotta hand it to Apple, I could never in a million years imagine this kind of song getting any kind of exposure without the promo muscle a simple Mac ad could provide. It give me a small hope for what's left of the music business. "New Soul" is an instant singalong classic, with Naim's frail voice fitting the delicate arrangement. Here's "New Soul"...

now for something completely different. Jeanie Tracy has been kicking around the dance scene since the 80s, with the late 90's/early 00's seeing her featured on a bunch of club hits, most notably Rosabel's "The Power" and "Cha Cha Heels" and Altar's "Party People". She's even already on the list backing up Vicki Shepard on "I Got A Feeling". This time she's back with Brazilians Altar with the uplifting tribal jam "Everybody Up". Goes good with dance.

Also coming here via the dance clubs, former(?) Destiny's Child Kelly Rowland follows up the top-40 "Like This" with the East-London funky "Daylight". Not as catch as yet-to-be-US single "Work", but smooth nonetheless (and check the bass on the "Karmatronic Remix" here)...

Inaya Day is another dance siren seens on a truckload of dance club chart hits like " I Am The 1" and "Movin' Up", while scoring #1's with "Can't Stop Dancin'", "Lift Me Up", and "U Spin Me". Teaming up with DJ Bill Bennett, she makes a hat trick of top-10 remakes, following "The Glamorous Life" and "Nasty Girl" with a redo of the classic sleeper track "Breakaway", originally by Aussie's predecessor to Chumbawumba, Big Pig. And this video is the cutest ever, biggie it up on another window for better viewage....

Now there's no question where Raheem DeVaughn's mind is at. I mean, his website's call "The Love Experience", for chrissakes. Sounding like D'Angelo doing an even better Marvin Gaye impression, here's "Woman"...

and in the same vibe, Jaheim has had more success, having three top-10 albums, one reaching the #1 spot, with a quartet of top-40 hits of his own and a top-5 smash backing up rapper Nelly (on "My Place"). He goes for the more sing-songy R. Kelly-ish delivery on new song "Never"....

3 Doors Down take time away from being military shills to get back the pop/rock/mope crowd with "It's Not My Time"....

Speaking of the military, American Idol hunk-o-rama/vet Josh Gracin follows two misstarts to finally release his second album, and here's the new single, nothing groundbreaking, but pleasant nonetheless, like late 90s country, here's "We Weren't Crazy"...

and what do you know? THIS years current American Idol champ (till the new season ends) comes on with her second single, this time a duet with current top-10 resident Chris Brown. I admit originally didn't care for the song's all-over-the-place melody, but it's growing on me. Here's "No Air"...

Sometimes I have songs on my list that have little-to-no American exposure. Such is the case with Girls Aloud. The girl-group was formed by British reality song competition Popstars: The Rivals, but have proven to transcent the toss-off tag. So far they have EIGHTEEN straight top-10 songs in the UK, while in America so far not a peep. They were last on MY list with "Call The Shots", and this time they sneak in with "Can't Speak French", which for some crazy reason was also recorded IN French. Go fig.

And finally, so new the official video isn't out yet, Carrie Underwood enters with "Last Name" channeling Shania Twain through Alan Jackson's "I Didn't Even Know Your Name"...

Cash that Social Security check yet?

PS the shed's awesome. Thanks for the gruntwork, SB
