"Tender Lover" - Babyface
from the album Tender Lover (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's song of the day comes from soul/pop singer/producer/songwriter Babyface (aka Kenny Edmonds), who had landed success away from his old band The Deele with the top ten hit "It's No Crime" in the fall of 1989. The second single from his second album was the title track, "Tender Lover", a mid-tempo break-up song written by the singer with Perri Reid (otherwise known as the singer "Pebbles") and L.A. Reid, who he produced the song with. Bobby Brown also makes a rap appearance on the "single mix" of the track...

"Tender Lover" became the second top-20 hit from the album in February of 1990. The song also was his third consecutive #1 R&B hit (after "It's No Crime" and "Love Saw It" with Karyn White). Internationally, it was his first minor in the UK at #86, and made the top 40 in New Zealand at #32.

Up tomorrow: Children with weaponry.
