twostepcub's music chart for June 3, 2011...

Happy post-Memorial Day, and it's time for my top-tunes for the week. This week Adele spends a fourth week at the top, while uncle/nephew duo LMFAO (pictured above) leap into the top-10. Former big hits by Usher, Jerrod Niemann, and Pink drop off my list, while songs by Aloe Blacc, Pitbull, and Hyper Crush make the biggest moves (jumps of 10+ places highlighted in red). Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artist names to go to their website (right-click, and you can use another window or tab). And off we go....

There are seven new songs (and one re-entry) on this week's list, and the debuts are highlighted in yellow. I've included some previous videos from these new artists in orange that you can click to watch as well.

The highest newcomer is by English singer/actress Natalia Cappuccini, who records under Natalia Kills. As a child, she appeared on various radio and TV shows, like a lot of Disney-incubated American artists. In 2005 she placed one rung below the British top-10 with "Don't Play Nice" (also under an alias, Verbalicious). After a legal fight with her former label, she now records for Cherrytree, home of one Lady GaGa. Her first single was a top-ten hit in Germany, Austria, and Poland, and now is gaining steam in American clubs. Here's "Mirrors"...

Next up is Laura Larue, who celebrates her hometown with her hit single, "San Francisco Is My Disco", along with a "Fruit Fly" tour...

British dance-rock trio Dirty Vegas hit it big almost 10 years ago thanks to Mitsubishi, who used their track "Days Go By" in an ultra-cool ad campaign that was one of the first commercial-led viral swell for a dance track on TV. That song eventually hit the top of the dance charts, as well as making top-20 pop in the US. After scoring a second #1 dance hit with "Walk In The Sun", they split until this year, and their second single after reforming has made the dance top-20. Here's the delightfully creepy clip to "Changes"...

Neo-Soul singer Jill Scott first CD, Who Is Jill Scott? produced her biggest R&B hit so far, "A Long Walk" which was a top-10 R&B hit (and bubbled under the top-40 pop) ten years ago. Her classic "Hate On Me" was skillfully covered by Glee in their first season. Her latest is a collaboration with Anthony David, who has a top-20 pop/top-3 R&B hit under his belt with "Charlene" from 2004. Their latest is the funky retrovibe of "So In Love"...

Well, it's official: Lady GaGa's Born This Way sold over one million copies digitally and physically in its first week, the first to do so since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005 (um, so much for quantity means quality). Mind, it's estimated over 400,000 of those "albums" were purchased from Amazon, who had two days offering the piece for 99 cents. However, considering the dismal state the music industry is in (which I do place a whole lotta blame on the industry itself), the willingness of the public to actively purchase that much does fortell better news, just as the fact that fans (like myself) still sought out the special edition (with more songs and a second disc of remixes). And again, for those dissing GaGa for channelling (for better) or cribbing (for worse) Madonna, the idea that a title song from a million-selling CD which blatantly and in no uncertain terms extols GLBT and racial pride spends six weeks at #1 on the pop chart, something I wouldn't have dreamed of in the 80's which I first started following music. A-fucking-men. GaGa's third single ("Judas" dropped out for now but is still bubbling under) is gaining ground on the radio, and of course came with an over-the-top performance on American Idol. Here's "The Edge Of Glory" from that performance; Clarence Clemmons of the E Street Band plays on da "sexy phone"...who knew?

Keen'V comes from the French city of Rouen, which is the capital of Normandy and home to over a half-million people. His biggest single to date is a more Francophone dance oriented number than his usual dancehall style, and it's "J'aimerais Trop" ("I Want Too Much"), complete with it's funny low-rent Green Hornet video...

The final debut is by singer Josh Thompson, who has a pair of top-20 country hits with "Beer On The Table" and "Way Out Here". His third single has spent a half-year on the chart as it is, and it "Won't Be Lonely Long"...

and as a bonus, here's the clip for the song that re-enters, Kris Menace's "Walking On The Moon" (since it's so cool)...

Sleep tight! By next week I'll be an uncle three times over! Yay Sis!
