twostepcub's music chart for June 17, 2011...

Hey folks, it's time for my top tunes for the week. This week Adele has a sixth week at #1, while South African rockers Seether (pictured above) stomp into the top-10. Former big hits by Sara Evans, Easton Corbin, Kerli, Alexis Jordan, and Cee-Lo Green fall off my list, while songs by Lady GaGa, Pitbull, and Natalia Kills make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red). This week there are nine debuts on my list (highlighted in yellow).

The highest entry is by Swedish singer Robyn, who first came to the US via a couple of great pop nuggets that made the top-10 in 1997, "Do You Know What It Takes" and "Show Me Love". Although in the 14 years since her music hasn't been given as much play on mainstream radio, in the dance clubs and in Europe she's continued being prosperous, including a #1 hit in the UK with "With Every Heartbeat". I guess you can call her the Nordic Kylie. In the last 12 months Robyn has released a trio of EPs/CDs called Body Talk. The first part contained one of my personal favorite songs of last year, "Dancing On My Own", which was nominated for a Grammy. Part 2 had "Hang With Me", which also made my chart's top half. And now from Part 3, which actually is the distillation of the first two EPs with more new songs, is her latest, "Call Your Girlfriend"...

DJ David Garcia was born in Venezuela, but grew up in California, where he's been a club find, though on radio he's only sported the minor dance hit "Dancin' Circles" with legend Dave Aude'.
His second has him at star billing, with singer Sarah Tancer providing vocals for a song that's graced the top-10 club chart, "All Here Now"...

Jessica Cornish, or Jessie J as she records by, has really grown on me. I must confess I detested her breakout single "Do It Like A Dude", which was a smash in her British homeland but like sandpaper in my ears. Thankfully the rest of her album runs mostly in the direction of her crossover US hit "Price Tag", which is current residing in my top 3 months after hitting #1 in the UK. Meanwhile, her followup single sneaks on here, and it's a heartbreak confessional of "Nobody's Perfect"...

Eric Church's last CD, Carolina, granted him his first two top-10 country hits with "Love Your Love The Most" and "Hell On The Heart". The preview single from his upcoming work drives further into the country-rock vein, which is fine by me - a man who like "mustard on his fries" always gets a thumbs up in my book. Here's "Homeboy"...

Canadian-born DJ John LePage is a hit with the gay "bear" crowd, and had a middle-chart club hit last year with "Heaven", which featured singer Debby Holiday, who has a powerhouse voice and a great track record of all seven of her solo charting singles going top-20, including her top-5 debut track "Dive". Their latest, like "Heaven", also supports the LFB, or "Leo Frappier Band", and it's called "Catch A Fire"...

Andrea Rosario is graduating from New York's Fame LaGuardia High School, and what better gift than her first hit, a club thumper that harkens to the freestyle music of the Cover Girls and Sweet Sensation called "We Own The Night"...

Canadian Andrew Allen takes his top-40 airplay hit in his home country and crosses the border for adult pop radio, where he's already in the top-30 there. Here's his debut single, "Loving You Tonight"...

Besides being a reality-show ho on Celebrity Apprentice, Trace Adkins has a fifteen-year career boasting three evenly spaced #1 country hits - 1997's "This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing", 2006's "Ladies Love Country Boys", and 2008's "You're Gonna Miss This", which came at the apex of his TV stint. He also had a #1 duet with Blake Shelton with "Hillbilly Bone". Now Blake has his own TV gig on The Voice. It's like the plague...Well Trace is back with the first single from his upcoming CD Proud To Be Here. Here's "Just Fishin'"...

Speaking of TV gigs, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has his first solo hit with some push from his spot on American Idol, and thus joining fellow judge Jennifer Lopez on my list. Considering he's now 63 years old, I guess I can cut him some slack, even though his track isn't getting the massive airplay as Lopez' overproduced jam is. But then again, even Aerosmith's biggest hit was the Diane Warren syrup of "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing". Here's "(It) Feels So Good"...

and as a bonus, here's the big Re-Entry of the week, Mother Monster (aka Lady GaGa)'s epic "The Edge Of Glory", featuring the Big Man, Clarence Clemons, who suffered a stroke this week. I am praying for a strong recovery, and it's so nice to see him here, even though the video threatens to break out Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield" dancers at any moment...

G'nite all! Did you know Steven Tyler's real last name is Tallerico? I didn't! And if you like any of these songs, by all mean get thee to Amazon, where you can order the CD or download the MP3. Support the music, so they can support you!
