Twostepcub's music chart for May 30, 2008...

Hey everyone. Apologize for being out of action pretty much for the last few weeks, I've had to recoup from a whirlwind month between our rodeo and the board meetings in Oklahoma. I'm back, and pledging to be more frequent on here. I thank you all for listening to my rants for so long. This week there are six new songs on the list, all with great potential.

First, electronica pioneer Moby has returned with a bouncy, accessible dance song that uses the done-me-wrong cliche of club music and transposes it in the video to become an anti-meat rant, to good effect (and this, coming from a guy who loves his fried chicken). Here's "Disco Lies" [GRADE A-]...

next, another 90's blast from the past, Alanis Morissette. She's kept the pith, but dressed it up in poppy, Sheryl Crow like retro-pop. Here's "Underneath" [GRADE A-]

now going even farther back, former pop-icon turned tabloid fodder George Michael has never lost his talent despite his personal problems. Unfortunately that has taken precedence, but as his performance on "American Idol"'s finale shows, he can still deliver. The same hold true for his latest single, "This Is Not Real Love", from his latest greatest hit album "Twenty-five" with ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena. There's no official video I found, but here's a decent clip with the dance mix that's popular in the clubs. [GRADE B+]

I featured this next song a while ago. While Sam Sparro has yet to become known in the US, he's so far found success in Britain, and rightfully so, with this slinky number called "Black & Gold". It's sonically a breath of fresh air from the pop norm. [GRADE A-]

Pop-punksters the Offspring come back from a hiatus with new song taking off where they left. Here's "Hammerhead" [GRADE B-]

Lastly, pre-fab group Danity Kane is on my list for the first time with new song (and apparent Chris Crocker fave) "Damaged"...

Two bonus clip this week. First, Weezer's new song "Pork & Beans" debuted on here a few weeks ago, and at the time didn't have a proper video. Now that one's been released, and quite a classic one at this, I gotta post it on here. See how many You-Tube "stars" you can recognize....

and finally, my new angst-political punk band of the moment, Against Me!, with their recent single, "Stop!", with a revamped video done for the "Rock The Vote" organization. BIG kudos for them for such a thoughtful and progressive video...

Until the next time (hopefully very soon)...

Goodnight, Sugarbear.
