It's already Tuesday, so better late than never for my tunes for the week. This week Michael Franti & Spearhead make it to the top spot, while Swedish singer Agnes (pictured above) makes it into the top-5. The biggest moves are made by songs by Nadia Ali, Deadmau5 & Kaskade, and Eddie X, while former big hits by Blake Shelton, Silversun Pickups, George Strait, Kristine W., and Sean Kingston drop out. I added the links for the seven new songs, in yellow. Baby, you can fix my car.... have we learned anything from balloon boy?

Image
The whole "balloon boy" dramedy that's been played out in the last four days or so proves a point - that the average American attention span is corrolated to the resemblance to a tv movie-of-the-week plot. The fact that this nutcase of a family was not only on a reality show, but voted back by public demand, tells you we like to watch the crazee on the teevee. From Paris Hilton to "The Hills" to Sarah Palin, loons will amplify their looniness to become a pastiche to be sold to the masses, while the important issues of the day like health care reform and the war in Afghanistan are too nuanced and complicated to be able to chop up into a five minute spot. It's a shame, but I feel news has finally morphed into total entertainment. (end rant)

and now, a special word from our sponsors...

Make that change... Hat tip to Eat Me Daily ...

Kylie-fever, parte deux...

Image
When I ended the first post about my two-day dream concert of Kylie Minogue in New York, it was day one, and her version of "Red Blooded Woman" floored the crowd, especially those unfamiliar with the "shower scene" setting. How do you follow that? Cheerleaders! I had ordered Minogue's KylieX2008 from Amazon back in December of last year, when I never thought she would ever tour in the States. It took over eight weeks to be shipped from Australia so I had the version that would play on my DVD player. It was so worth the wait, and my favorite part was her mashup of "Heartbeat Rock" and "Wow" with Toni Basil's "Mickey". Well, I was overjoyed when I found out she was reprising the number on this tour, though shortening it a little. Still, it proved to be the biggest crowd-raising dance number of the night... She followed that with a song that she brought out on the Showgirls Homecoming tour, the Scissor Sisters'-written "

Hey everyone, I'll be posting my part two of Kylie soon, but in the meantime, I'll catch up with my top tunes from last week before I forget. German dance act Cascada makes it to #1 for the first time, while Michael Franti & Spearhead (pictured above) hold on in the top-5. Sixteen songs make jumps of 10 places or more, with Weezer, David Guetta, and Five For Fighting moving the most, while former big hits by Pitbull (twice off), Jessica Jarrell, and Randy Houser drop out. I'll try to put up the links ASAP. But at the end are the new vids! Nor'ester!?!?!?! I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas (2) 3. Use Somebody - Kings Of Leon (1) 4. Say Hey (I Love You) - Michael Franti & Spearhead (4) 5. Celebration - Madonna (9) 6. I can die happy now...

Well, it's been a whirlwind weekend. After buying tickets back in May , it was finally time for Kylie Minogue to come into New York for her first-ever American tour . Honestly, given Kylie's small-ish (but rabid) following, I had never imagined that she would bring her high-end spectaular show to the States, but not only did she prove me wrong, she proved that she can scale down the show just enough so one wouldn't notice, but made it economically possible to pull off. In fact, she sold out the first show at NYC's Hammerstein Ballroom, then sold out a second show, and tonight will be her third. At the venue I heard quite a few people who commented that she could've played Madison Square Garden easily, but the perspective the audience had at the Hammerstein's small intimate settings was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Well actually, for me, twice-in-a-lifetime. In my fervor in May, I bought tickets for both Sunday and Monday, and really toyed with getting tonig

distant shores song for the night - the adventures of Dizzee R...

Tonight's DSS is by British Hip-hop artist Dizzee Rascal , who has blended rap and dance music in such songs as "Dance Wiv Me", "Holiday", and "Bonkers", and has his third top-10 song in the UK from his latest set Tongue N Cheek with "Dirtee Cash (Money Talks)", which cribs from one of my faves from the early 90's, Adventures of Stevie V's "Dirty Cash"... cee u next tuesday award for the w-w-w-weak....

Image
This weeks winner of the Cee U Next Tuesday award for female excellence in the male-dominated field of douchebaggery is BET co-founder Sheila Johnson , who was caught at a fundraiser for Republican Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell making fun of opponent Craig Deeds for a stutter. As a person similiarly affected (though tamed through a lot of therapy and practice), I say this to this shill of bad sitcom reruns and bad music shows.... F-F-F-F-Fuck you, bitch. For this, you win this weeks C-U-N-T award, which you can directly shove in your mouth to plug the thing up already.

Hey everyone, and sorry for being away for a week. It's been pretty nuts, but hopefully after a couple things this week I'll be back in the groove.
