Songoftheday 9/10/15 - Another sleepless night I can't explain, somebody said they heard me call your name...
"Should've Known Better" - Richard Marx
from the album Richard Marx (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13
Today's song of the day comes from pop singer/songwriter Richard Marx, who had his breakthrough hit in 1987 with the Eagles-esque "Don't Mean Nothing". His second single, "Should've Known Better", picked the tempo up a bit to a Phil Collins-like pop-rock speed with power chords and churning delivery in place, with lyrics about regretting a broken-up relationship....
"Should've Known Better" became Marx's second top-3 pop hit in America in December of 1987. The single also crossed over to #7 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock and #20 on their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio charts. Internationally, the song climbed to #9 in Australia and #50 in the UK.
