Songoftheday 3/20/20 - What up everybody so glad you're here, it's Coolio with the flow back in your ear...

"1,2,3,4 (Sumpin' New)" - Coolio
from the album Gangsta's Paradise (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 15

Today's song of the day comes from rap artist Coolio, whose album Gangsta's Paradise had already scored a pair of hits with his interpolation of Kool & The Gang's "Too Hot" as well as the Grammy-winning #1 hit "Gangsta's Paradise". The third release from the album was the bouncy track "1,2,3,4 (Sumpin' New)". Riding on a sample of Tom Browne's jazz-soul hit "Thighs High", a special "Timber" mix is what got on the single, and subsequently on the video, which cameoed Jamie Foxx ...

"1,2,3,4" became Coolio's third and final top ten pop hit in April of 1996. The song did much better at mainstream pop stations than at urban radio, where it peaked at #24 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single hit the top ten in New Zealand (#2) and France (#7), and reached the top-40 in Australia (#12), the UK (#13), the Netherlands (#14), Norway (#14), Sweden (#17), Ireland (#29), Belgium (#31W/#49F), and Germany (#39).
