Robbed hit of the week 3/9/20 - Shawn Stockman's "Visions Of A Sunset"...

"Visions Of A Sunset" - Shawn Stockman
from the album Mr. Holland's Opus (Original Soundtrack) (1996)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #45

This week's "robbed hit" comes from a member of the biggest R&B act of the early 1990s, Boyz II Men. Shawn Stockman was riding quite high at that point, by the end of 1996 being on the biggest pop single of the rock era of that time, Boyz II Men's collaboration with Mariah Carey "One Sweet Day". The group also were appearing on LL Cool J's top-ten "Hey Lover", and their last album II had scored a pair of #1 singles with "I'll Make Love To You" and "On Bended Knee". During all that activity Shawn found the time to record a solo single for the soundtrack to the movie Mr. Holland's Opus starring Richard Dreyfuss as a music teacher. That song, "Visions Of A Sunset", was written by Stockman, and put out as a single, it became his first solo hit...

While "Visions Of A Sunset" rose to #18 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, and #28 on the Adult R&B list, the single stalled right under the American pop Top-40 in February of 1996. Since then he has continued on with his Boyz II Men mates, and at the close of 2018, he released another solo single, "Feelin Lil Som'n", which climbed to #10 on the Adult R&B format chart.
