"Free Man" was a big club hit for the Washington DC soul group South Shore Commission. Appearing on their self-titled debut (and only) album, the song was written by Ronnie Tyson of the Temptations along with producer Bunny Sigler. On Record World magazine's Disco File Top-20 chart, "Free Man" spent a week at #1 in 1975, while also reaching the top ten on Billboard's R&B chart at #9. It was a minor pop hit at #61 as well.
