Disco Dessert 11/15/19 - "Ai No Corrida" from Chaz Jankel....

"Ai No Corrida" was a club hit for English new wave artist Chaz Jankel, who had started a solo career after being part of the Ian Dury & The Blockheads. Appearing on his self-titled solo album in 1980, the song, written by Jankel with Kenny Young (who co-write the Drifters' "Under The Boardwalk"), was included in the 12" single that had "Glad To Know You" and "3,000,000 Synths" on it from his second album Chasanova. The combined three tracks charted as one, and spent seven weeks at #1 on Billboard magazine's Disco Top 80 chart in 1982. (The 7" radio single which only had the latter two songs climbed to #57 on the R&B chart and "bubbled under" the pop Hot 100 at #102.) A year later, producer Quincy Jones and studio group Dune covered the song and went to #3 on the dance chart, #10 R&B, and #28 pop. Incidentally, the title "Ai No Corrida" (Rope Of Love) is a Japanese title of a erotic thriller movie from the time.
