Songoftheday 9/6/19 - I can't wait each day just to see you walk, tryin' to move in close to get to where you are...

"Baby" - Brandy
from the album Brandy (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 18

Today's song of the day comes from actress and singer Brandy, whose debut single "I Wanna Be Down" granted her a top ten pop hit that spent a month on top on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. With that momentum, Brandy released the mid-tempo jam "Baby" as the second single. It was an immediate success, leaping from its debut of #60 on the pop chart all the way to #5 in its second week. Written by producer Keith Crouch along with singer Rashaan Patterson and urban soul songwriter Kipper Jones, it had a minor-key flow that made her song sound like a Mary J Blige or Aaliyah record...

"Baby" became Brandy's second top ten pop hit in March of 1995. The song also spent a month at #1 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, matching the performance of "I Wanna Be Down". The single was also a top ten hit in New Zealand (#4) and Australia (#16).
