Songoftheday 9/3/19 - There's many a day I ache for you but we are oceans apart, even though my tears have dried there's an emptiness I feel in my heart called love

"Mishale" - Andru Donalds
from the album Andru Donalds (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's song of the day comes from Jamaican pop/reggae artist Andru Donalds, who was born in the nation's capital of Kingston. Traveling the world as a young adult, he eventually settled in America, where he hooked up with producer/songwriter Eric Foster White, who helped Donalds land a record deal and make his self-titled debut album. The lead single, "Mishale", was written by the pair, became his first and biggest success, coming on the tail end of the pop-reggae spree that also produced Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks, UB40, and eventually Diana King...

"Mishale" became Donalds' first and only charting hit in America, reaching the top-40 inn February of 1995. The song also climbed to #33 on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart in Billboard magazine, while the remixes of the track helped it go to #29 on their Dance Club Play list. The song didn't make any dent internationally.

After a second album that went unnoticed save for a cover of Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby" that was used in the movie Good Will Hunting, Andru was recruited by producer Michael Cretu to join his group Enigma, who were best known for goth/new age hits "Sadeness" and "Return To Innocence". He remains with the band to date, while Cretu has helped him record a few more albums. In 1999, his cover of Air Supply's "All Out Of Love" became his biggest solo success worldwide, hitting #3 in Germany, Switerland, and Austria.
