Songoftheday 5/8/19 - In the thunderin' rain you stare into my eyes, I can feel your hands moving up my thighs...

"Any Time, Any Place"/"And On And On" - Janet Jackson
from the album janet. (1993)/ janet. Remixed (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 19

Today's song(s) of the day come from Janet Jackson, whose janet. album had already spun off four top ten pop hits with "Because Of Love", "If", and two charttoppers in "Again" and "That's The Way Love Goes". (Album track "Where Are You Now" made the top-40 on the pop airplay chart as well.) The fifth physical single from the project would be the slow and sultry f*ck-fest of "Any Time, Any Place". Written and produced by Janet with long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of Flyte Tyme, the song is basically a seven minute long declaration of desire and the willingness to express that desire in public. R. Kelly shortened the song to a five minute remix that radio clung to as well...

"Any Time, Any Place" became the fifth top ten pop hit from janet. in June of 1994. The song ended up her biggest success on Billboard magazine's R&B chart (along with B-Side "And On And On"), spending ten weeks at #1 on that list. It even crossed over to their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening" chart, peaking at #34. Internationally, the single peaked at #6 in Canada, and made the top-40 in the UK (#13), New Zealand (#20), Australia (#37), and Iceland (#37).

The "B-Side" of the 7" vinyl/CD single was "And On And On", which was based on a sample of Sly & The Family Stones' "Family Affair". Listed with "Any Time" on the Hot 100 and R&B charts, the song gathered enough radio love to peak at #38 on the Pop Airplay chart and #12 on the R&B Airplay chart...
