Songoftheday 5/10/19 - The skies were pure and the fields were green, and the sun was brighter than it's ever been...

"Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" - Meat Loaf
from the album Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's song of the day comes from Meat Loaf, whose "comeback" album Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell had spun off two big pop hits already with "Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through" and the #1 Grammy-winning "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)".  The third and final single from the album would have one of the longest titles in the rock chart era. "Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are", an obvious play on the inscription of car side mirrors, was written and produced by Jim Steinman, based on an earlier work "Surf's Up" from his own album Bad For Good. The song uses the seasons to break off narratives stuck in the singer's memory which is compared to the mirror...

"Objects In The Rear View Mirror..." became the third top-40 pop hit from Bat Out Of Hell II in May of 1994. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in the UK (#26), Canada (#26), and New Zealand (#32).
