"The Real Thing" was a club hit for singer/songwriter Dick Monda, aka "Daddy Dewdrop", who is best known for his baroque-pop hit "Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes Love It)" from 1971. Appearing on his second album Meet The Beat, "The Real Thing" climbed to #62 on Billboard magazine's Disco Top 80 in 1979.
