"Check Yo Self" - Ice Cube featuring Das EFX
from the album The Predator (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day comes from rapper Ice Cube, who had parlayed his gangsta cred from being a part of seminal hip-hop act N.W.A. into a solo acting and recording career in the early 1990s. "It Was a Good Day", the second single from his Predator album, became his first lead top-40 pop hit in the spring of 1993. His follow-up release, "Check Yo Self", would get a remix treatment on the physical single version that included rap act Das EFX, who had also hit the pop top-40 with "We Want EFX" the previous year. Laying the radio version with a sample of Grandmaster Flash's "The Message", the result was Ice Cube's next big success...

"Check Yo Self" became Ice Cube's second top-40 pop hit in August of 1993. The track also climbed to #1 for a week on Billboard magazine's R&B and Rap Singles charts. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit in the UK (#36) and New Zealand (#38).
