Songoftheday 9/8/18 - Should I even listen should I even try, will I just be hearing the same old lines...

"Love Shoulda Brought You Home" - Toni Braxton
from the albums Boomerang (Original Soundtrack) (1992) and Toni Braxton (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's song of the day comes from soul songstress Toni Braxton, who made her debut on mainstream pop radio in the fall of 1992 with her collaboration with Babyface from the Boomerang soundtrack, "Give U My Heart". Toni's other track on the Boomerang album was also written and produced by Babyface along with partners L.A. Reid and Daryl Simmons with Bo Watson helping with the writing. "Love Shoulda Brought You Home" name-checks a line that Halle Berry said to Eddie Murphy in the movie. It was intended for jazz-soul great Anita Baker to record, but in her stead Toni, who sung the demo, took over...

"Love Shoulda Brought You Home" became Toni's second top-40 pop hit in America in January of 1993. The song spent a week at #2 on Billboard's R&B chart. Internationally, the record went to #33 in the UK a year later (where it was her fourth single from her debut album).
