Songoftheday 9/17/18 - I know you're tired of the same old line, me sayin' I have something to do...

"Quality Time" - Hi-Five
from the album Keep It Goin' On (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group Hi-Five, whose sophomore album Keep It Goin' On had already scored them their third top ten pop hit in the fall of 1992 with "She's Playing Hard To Get". The second single from the record would be the midtempo new jack swing-lite of "Quality Time". Written and produced by R. Kelly, the track would not only help the group led by the late Tony Thompson, but also give more cred to Kelly as a music powerhouse...

"Quality Time" became Hi-Five's fourth top-40 pop hit in January of 1993. The song spent a week on Billboard's R&B chart. Internationally, the single reached #36 in New Zealand. The third and final single from Keep It Goin' On, "Mary Mary", managed to get to #50 on the R&B tally, while missing the pop chart altogether. After the release of the album, member "Pooh" Clark died after a motor vehicle accident, and Russell Neal left the group as well. They would be replaced by their next record.

Up tomorrow: Canadian singer does some topological rearranging.
