Disco Dessert 9/4/18 - "Get Up Boogie" from Leroy Gomez...

Leroy Gomez, a singer who had played with Tavares, another disco act from Massachusetts with roots in the island nation of Cape Verde, was born in the town of Wareham right before Cape Cod. He was the leader of the band Santa Esmeralda, who had a top-20 pop hit with a cover of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" in 1977. Two years later, Leroy released "Get Up Boogie", a solo jam that's just as infectious, but somehow this nugget rather tanked, only making it to #43 on Billboard's Disco/Dance chart. A damn shame, this video is freaking glorious. It appeared on his I Got It Bad album.
