Robbed hit of the week 3/19/18 - Scorpions' "Send Me An Angel"...

"Send Me An Angel" - Scorpions
from the album Crazy World (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #44

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the German heavy metal band Scorpions, who rode into the American pop top ten in the summer of 1991 in the spirit of glasnost that eventually led to the falling of the Berlin Wall on their third single from their Crazy World album, "Wind Of Change". With that momentum, the group released a fourth single from the record, "Send Me An Angel". Like "Wind of Change", it was a softer number, but more of a standard metal power-ballad than the political anthem the other single turned out to be...

While "Send Me An Angel" climbed all the way to #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart, the song stalled right under the top-40 in January of 1992. Internationally, the single was much more successful, reaching the top ten in Belgium (#4), the Netherlands (#4), Sweden (#4), Germany (#5), France (#8), and Austria (#8). It also reached #14 in Switzerland, #19 in Canada, and #27 in the UK.
