German Sweep: May 3, 2017...

Here's the top ten hits in Germany this week, according to their official singles chart, as Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You" finally releases its hold at #1 after 15 weeks as Latin pop stars Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee take over on top...

5. "Something Just Like This" - The Chainsmokers & Coldplay (4)
6. "No Roots" - Alice Merton (DEBUT)
7. "You Don't Know Me" - Jax Jones featuring RAYE (5)
8. "It Ain't Me" - Kygo & Selena Gomez (7)
9. "Galway Girl" - Ed Sheeran (8)
10. "Symphony" - Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson (9)

Leaping into the top ten is German/Canadian singer Alice Merton, from Frankfurt, with "No Roots". I featured the track a couple of weeks ago - it's already one of my personal favorites of the year...

Further down the chart, Turkish-born rapper KC Rebell from Essen and Summer Cem roll on to the top-40 at #20 with "Nicht Jetzt" ("Not Now")...


Kurdo, a Kurdish-Iraqi rapper from Heidelberg, moves into the top-40 at #33 with "Ya Salam"...


Hip-hop artist Nimo, from Karlsruhe, slips in at #35 with "LFR"...


American blues-rock back Welshly Arms arrives in the top-40 in this country at #39 with "Legendary"...


Meanwhile, on the albums chart in Germany, soul/pop artist Adel Tawil, from Berlin, lands his first #1 album as a solo artist with his second effort, So schön anders ("So Beautifully Different"). As part of Ich + Ich, he also topped the list twice. (His music videos aren't available on YouTube, but you can watch by clicking here)...


Alexa Feser, from the western city of Weisbaden, scores her first top ten album at #3 with Zwischen den Sekunden ("Between Seconds")...


Pop/R&B band Söhne Mannheims ("Sons Of Mannheim"), named for their hometown, claim their ninth top ten album (all of their charting releases) with MannHeim at #6. They went to #1 three times including two live albums and their second studio set Noiz in 2004...


Stuttgart rapper Bausa slips in at #10 with Dreifarbenhaus ("Three-story house")...
