French Sweep: May 23, 2017...

Here's the top ten hits in France this week, according to their official singles chart, as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (with a little help from Justin Bieber, I suppose) top the list for a fourth week...

1. "Despacito" - Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee (1)
2. "Shape Of You" - Ed Sheeran (2)
3. "Chocolat" - Lartiste featuring Awa Imani (3)
4. "Amar Pelos Dois" - Salvador Sobral (DEBUT)
5. "Requiem" - Alma (DEBUT)
6. "It Ain't Me" - Kygo & Selena Gomez (7)
7. "Skin" - Rag N' Bone Man (8)
8. "I Feel It Coming" - The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (4)
9. "Human" - Rag N' Bone Man (6)
10. "Chained To The Rhythm" - Katy Perry featuring Skip Marley (RE-ENTRY)

At last week's Eurovision finals, Salvador Sobral ended up winning the contest with a song that quite reminded me of French music legend Serge Gainsbourg. That entry, "Amar Pelos Dois" ("Love For Both of Us"), enters the chart in this country at #4. Last year's winner, "1944" from Ukranian singer Jamala, peaked at #49 in France...

Meanwhile, France's own entry into Eurovision, "Requiem" from Alma, leaps twenty notches into the top ten at #5. They came in 12th in the finals. Last year's selection, "J'ai Cherche'" from Amir, which came in 6th, climbed to #2 on the French chart...

Further down the chart, Parisian R&B/hip-hop artist Maitre Gims jumps into the top-40 at #19 with "Marabout" (Marabou, a North African religious leader)...

A third Eurovision entry, neighboring Belgium's Blanche with "City Lights", shines in at #35...

On the albums chart in this country, French rapper Sofiane rockets in at #1 with his sixth record Bandit saleté ("Dirt Bandit")...

Former One Direction member Harry Styles sets in at #2 with his eponymous debut solo album...
