German Sweep: April 19, 2017...

Here's the top ten hits in Germany, according to their official singles chart, as Ed Sheeran fends off a venerable challenge to remain on top for his fourteenth consecutive week...

3. "Tuesday" - Burak Yeter featuring Danelle Sandoval (2)
4. "Something Just Like This" - The Chainsmokers & Coldplay (4)
5. "You Don't Know Me" - Jax Jones featuring RAYE (3)
6. "Swalla" - Jason Derulo featuring Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign (6)
7. "It Ain't Me" - Kygo & Selena Gomez (5)
8. "Despacito" - Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee (8)
9. "Galway Girl" - Ed Sheeran (7)
10. "Menschen Leben Tanzen Welt" - Jim Pandzko featuring Jan Bohmermann (DEBUT)

German punk legends Die Toten Hosen are back landing on the entire top 100 in this country at #2 with "Unter der Wolken" ("Under The Clouds"). It's their twelfth single to reach the top 10; two of them, "Zehn kleine Jägermeister" in 1996 and "Tage Die Wiese" in 2012, went all the way to #1...

TV comedian Jan Bohmermann, who assumes the "singer/songwriter" moniker of "Jim Pandzko" (like the popular Tim Bendzko), leaps into the top ten with "Menschen Leben Tanzen Welt" ("Human Life Dancing World"), a novelty satiric song which pulls random advertising slogans arranged by an algorithm of chimpanzees food habits to rag on the current pop scene in the country...



Further down the chart, German/Canadian pop artist Alice Merton slips into the top 40 at #34 with "No Roots"...


Meanwhile, on the albums chart in this country, British hard rock band Deep Purple reunite at #1 with Infinite. It's their eighth release to reach #1 in this country - their first came way back in 1970 with Deep Purple In Rock...


Schlager pop music duo Fantasy, from North Rhine-Westphalia, come in at #3 with Bonnie & Clyde. It's their fourth top ten album. Their last, Freudenspr√ľnge ("Pleasures") went to #1 last year...


German rapper 18 Karat scores his first top ten album at #4 with Pusha...


Dutch duo Die Kirmesmusikanten ("The Carnival Musicians"), who performed folk music instrumentally with accordions, roll in at #8 with the compilation Das Beste...



Rap act Entetainment enter at #10 with Feder Gottes...
