Here's the top ten hits in France this week, according to their official chart, as a musical and artistic legend is honored in his passing...

Canadian poet and singer/songwriter Richard Cohen sadly passed this world on November 7th, and no one better than the French love a melancholy observer of life like he was. He had never reached the top-40 on the singles chart, but now has five entries, including what may be his masterpiece, "Hallelujah", which enters at #1. It's from his 1984 album Various Positions...

His "first" single, "Suzanne" from 1967's Songs Of Leonard Cohen, also leaps into the top 10 at #3...


A single I featured last week, "Tchikita" from French rapper Jul, rockets into the top 10 at #8, becoming his fifth top ten hit...


Further down the chart, the current single and title track from Cohen's stellar swan song You Want It Darker album, rebounds into the top-40 at #36...


Kaaris, the rapper born in the African nation of the Ivory Coast but resides in the Parisian suburbs, slips in at #40 with "Tchoin" (French street slang for a, say easy woman)...


Meanwhile, on the albums chart in France, M Pokora remains on top with My Way...

Kaaris' Okou Gnakouri arrives at #2...


Sting flies in at #6 with his new set 57th & 9th. It's his eleventh solo release since disbanding the Police to make the top ten in this country. His best showing was in 1993 with Ten Summoners Tales which peaked at #2...
