Songoftheday 7/2/16 - I was hanging with some friends of mine, we were all having a real good time, yeah I saw a girl who was so very fine...

"She Won't Talk To Me" - Luther Vandross
from the album Any Love (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #30 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's song of the day is by the late great soul/disco singer Luther Vandross, whose sixth studio album Any Love had been released in 1988, with the title track landing him a fourth #1 R&B hit. However, the single stalled right under the pop top-40. The next release from the album was a more upbeat and playful take on being turned down in love. "She Won't Talk To Me", written by Luther with Hubert Eaves II (D-Train), not only brought him back to pop radio, but also the clubs, being the "dance hit" from the set...

"She Won't Talk To Me" became Luther's fifth top-40 pop hit in March of 1989. The song also climbed to #3 on Billboard's R&B singles chart, and crossed over to #17 on their Adult Contemporary (or 'easy listening') radio list. The 12" remix made it to #18 on the Dance Club Play chart as well. Internationally, the song went to #34 in the UK and #17 in New Zealand. The track was nominated for a Grammy for R&B male performance in 1990, losing to Bobby Brown's "Every Little Step".
