Soul Sweep: May 28, 2016...

We're at the "hump" of this week's 'music sweeps', sampling the notable songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine. This time out I'm serving up the latest hits on R&B radio...

On the main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, Rihanna remains on top for an eleventh week with "Work"...

Rapper Kevin Gates lands at #43 with "Really Really", an album track that's starting to get radio airplay now that previous single "2 Phones" drops out of the top ten. Grade: D

Producer/singer/rapper S-8ighty from New Orleans lands at #47 with "Halfway" featuring Lil' Wayne. Grade: D+

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel, Johnny Gill and New Edition reign for a third week with "This One's For Me & You"...

Soul legend Eddie Levert, once the lead singer for the O'Jays, is back at #29 with "Say It Ain't So", my "Soul Pick of the Week". Grade: C+

Tyrese, who spent eight weeks of this year at #1 with "Shame", is back at #30 with "Prior To You" featuring Tank.

Lastly, on the Rhythmic format, whose stations include more dance-pop music in their playlists, Drake climbs to #1 with "One Dance", his tenth as a lead to reach the top...

Rapper Trinidad James gets help from Lil' Dicky and Mystikal for the totally sexist but still supposedly empowering "Just A Lil' Thick ($he Juicy)". Grade: F+

Australian DJ/producer Flume takes his dance/pop hit "Never Be Like You" featuring Kai to this chart at #40. Grade: B+

I'll be back with the latest on country radio...
