Soul Sweep: May 14, 2016...

We're at the "hump" of today's 'music sweeps', sampling the notable songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine, and this time out I'm serving up the latest on R&B radio...

On their main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, Rihanna remains on top for a ninth week with "Work"...

As Beyonce's "Formation" from her album Lemonade is still in the top ten at #10, her "Sorry" (aka the one with "Becky with the Good Hair") pops in at #30. There's no clip out yet from her visual album on YouTube, but you can check it out at Tidal by clicking here (you'll have to sign in for a free trial to listen to it totally). Grade: C-

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel,  Johnny Gill and New Edition climb to #1 with "This One's For Me & You", and no new songs enter the chart...

Lastly, on the Rhythmic format, whose stations include more dance/pop music in their playlists,  Belly holds on top for a second week with "Might Not"...

"White-boy" rapper G-Eazy follows up his #1 hit on this chart "Me, Myself & I" with the song at #32, "Drifting", featuring Chris Brown and Tory Lanez. Grade: D

Kent Jones comes in at #36 with "Don't Mind". The track is at #19 on the main R&B chart as well. Grade: C-

Rihanna slips in at #39 and takes my "Soul Pick of the Week" with "Kiss It Better" from her Anti album. Grade: C

I'll return with the latest on country radio...
