Songoftheday 5/4/16 - The place was jammed the music loud, I could see her face standing out in the crowd...

"Not Just Another Girl" - Ivan Neville
from the album If My Ancestors Could See Me Now (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's song of the day is by singer Ivan Neville, one of the sons of legendary R&B vocalist Aaron Neville. After a fruitful career as a session and tour musician, working with such greats as the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, and his siblings the Neville Brothers, Ivan released his solo debut album in 1988. The first single from the set was the fun, rollicky alternative rock song "Not Just Another Girl". Written by Ivan and produced by Danny Kortchmar (Don Henley's go-to), the single placed him with a totally different audience than his dad...

"Not Just Another Girl" became Ivan's sole top-40 pop hit in December of 1988. The single was a much bigger hit at rock radio, landing at #6 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. A second single from the album, "Falling Out Of Love", slipped in at #91 on the pop chart. Since then he's released a few more of his own albums, but is more involved with studio work.

Up tomorrow: A fleeing Jet joins a new Club, memorably.
