Rock Sweep: June 4, 2016...

Round two of this week's 'music sweeps' is up, checking out the notable songs making their debut on the charts in Billboard magazine. This time I've got the latest hits on rock radio...

On their main Rock Airplay chart, the Red Hot Chili Peppers spend a second week at #1 with "Dark Necessities"...

Chevelle, not the car but rather the hard rock band from Chicago, are back at #36 with "Joyride (Omen)", the first single from their upcoming eighth album The North Corridor. The song also leaps from #40 to #17 in its second week on the Mainstream Rock format. The group has accrued five top-10 hits on this chart, with "Jars" reaching #2 in 2009. Grade: C-

Rock-reggae hybrid the Dirty Heads shake in at #43 with "That's All I Need". Back in 2010 they topped this list with "Lay Me Down". Grade: C

Coldplay slip in at #47 with this week's "Rock Pick Of The Week", and the third single from their A Head Full Of Dreams album, "Up&Up". They took "Adventure Of A Lifetime" to #2 here. This video is by far the best of this week's bunch. Grade: B+

And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, Volbeat hold on top for a third week with "The Devil's Bleeding Crown"...

The third radio single from Breaking Benjamin's Dark Before Dawn album, "Ashes Of Eden", enters at #37. It follows two back-to-back #1's with "Failure" and "Angels Fall". Grade: B

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, twenty-one pilots move back to #1 for a seventh non-consecutive week with "Ride", while the aforementioned tracks by Dirty Heads and Coldplay come in at #30 and #38 respectively...

Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, The Record Company earns their first chart-topper with "Off The Ground"...

Adele sweeps in at #25 with her "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)". It was a former "Pop Pick". She took "Hello" to #1 on this chart in the winter. Grade: B

A recent "Rock Pick of the Week", Radiohead's "Burn The Witch", flames in at #27 here. In 2011 they went to #20 with "Lotus Flower". Grade: A-

Veteran alt-country group the Jayhawks fly in at #29 with "Quiet Corners and Empty Spaces". Five years ago their "She Walks In So Many Ways" hit #15 on this list. Grade: B

I'll return with the latest on R&B radio...
