Robbed hit of the week 4/11/16 - Jeffrey Osborne's "She's On The Left"...

"She's On The Left" - Jeffrey Osborne
from the album One Love - One Dream (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #48

This week's "robbed hit" comes from soul vocalist Jeffrey Osborne, who carved out a successful solo career for himself in the 1980's after leaving the disco outfit L.T.D. He planted eight singles into the pop top-40, including his duet with Dionne Warwick, "Love Power", that went the highest on the Hot 100 at #12 in the summer of 1987. The following year, Osborne released his fifth solo set One Love - One Dream, and the first single from the project was the slinky slice of romantic obsession with "She's On The Left"...

While "She's On The Left" became Jeffrey's first and so far only R&B #1 in Billboard, the song staled out underneath the pop top-40 in October of 1988. The extended remix version went to #6 on their dance club play chart, matching his highest moment with 1984's "Plane Love" (another song that missed the pop top-40).

After a couple more minor R&B singles missed the pop chart altogether, Jeffrey reunited with Dionne for another collaboration, "Take Good Care Of You And Me", which reached #25 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1989. He started the 90s with another big soul hit, "Only Human" (#3, 1990), but has relied on touring behind mostly older material since. His last chart appearance was in 2005 with a cover of "Yes I'm Ready" (#64 R&B).
