Soul Sweep: February 27, 2016...

We're at the "hump" of this week's "music sweeps", sampling the songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine, and this time up I'm serving the latest hits on R&B radio...

On their main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, Tory Lanez is on top for a fourth week with "Say It"...

Leaping on the chart at #11 is Beyonce' with her new track "Formation". With lyrics and a bouncy beat more fun than some of the striking images in the music video, it's truly a chunk of art you need to ponder for awhile, and it's my "Soul Pick of the Week". (Unfortunately, the video isn't available on YouTube, but here's part of its with some "pop ups" from Washington Post)...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel,  Tyrese returns to #1 for a 16th non-consecutive week with "Shame"...

Neo-soul artist Musiq Soulchild is back at #27 with his latest, "I Do"...

Chris Brown crosses over to the normally more reserved soul list at #29 with his "Back To Sleep"...

Lastly, on the Rhythmic format, whose station add more dance/pop music to their playlists,  "Say It" is up top for a second week, while the aforementioned "Formation" from Beyonce is the highest new entry at #29...

Former One Direction member Zayn lands at #32 with his former #1 pop hit "Pillowtalk"...

The current #2 pop hit from alt-rock duo twenty-one pilots, "Stressed Out", crosses over to this chart at #38...

Canadian singer/songwriter Alessia Cara's introvert anthem "Here" went to #1 on this chart back in December. She's back at #39 with "Wild Things"...
