Robbed hit of the week 10/5/15 - Noel's "Silent Morning"...

"Silent Morning" - Noel
from the album Noel (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #47

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the Bronx-born singer Noel (Pagan), whose first hit single started out as "Spanish Morning", before being changed up to fit the mainstream audiences listening to the formerly Latin-dominated 'freestyle' dance music, to "Silent Morning". Written by Noel and produced by future Information Society member Paul Robb, the song was a huge hit in New York and Chicago dance radio...

While "Silent Morning" spent over five months (22 weeks) on the pop chart, it didn't rise higher than #47 on the Hot 100 in November of 1987. The record did peak up at #6 on Billboard's Dance Club Play list, while the 12" single went to #7 on the sales chart.

Noel would follow up "Silent Morning" with two more freestyle classics from his debut album. First, "Like A Child", which became his first #1 club hit, stopped at #67 on the pop chart but did cross over to the R&B list at #88. Then "Out Of Time" also hit #1, but by the time the 90s harkened, his new single with the Concept of One, "the Question", just managed to make an appearance on the 12" singles sales chart at #24.  He still performs on the lucrative freestyle flashback concert circuit.
