Pop Sweep: October 31, 2015...

I'm ready to kick off the first of my "music sweeps" for the day, checking out the songs making their way on to the various singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start off on the pop side of things, then later in the day move on to the latest in rock, R&B, country, and dance. And away we gooooo...

On the "big chart", Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies from internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), radio airplay from all genres, and sales (like Amazon MP3 and iTunes), The Weeknd spends a fifth week at #1 with "The Hills"...

In a rather "slow" week, the first of the three debuts on the Hot 100 doesn't appear until #92. It's actress/singer Jana Kramer with "I Got The Boy". The song is her third to reach the "big" chart; her debut, "Why Ya Wanna", went to #50 in 2012. It also is up to #18 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart...

Another top-20 country hit, "Top Of The World" from Tim McGraw, lands at #99. It's the lead-off single from his upcoming Damn Country Music album which drops on November 6. The track stands at #14 on the country airplay chart...

The last entry at #100 is British indie-rock band the 1975 with "Love Me". It's their second trip here; they made it to #80 with "Chocolate"...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Justin Bieber is on top for a second week with "What Do You Mean?"...

Australian "boy-band" Five Seconds of Summer come in at #35 with "Hey Everybody!", the second radio single from their sophomore effort Sounds Good, Feels Good, which came out last Friday (10/23). The first, "She's Kinda Hot", went to #15 here...

Last year, DJ/remixing duo the Chainsmokers climbed to #14 with the novelty hit "#SELFIE". They return at #37 with the more subdued "Roses" featuring singer ROZES...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Taylor Swift scores her sixth #1 hit (and fifth from her 1989 album) with "Wildest Dreams"...

The sole new song on this list at #37 is acapella royalty Pentatonix with "Can't Sleep Love", my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart,  Rachel Platten remains on top for a sixth week with "Fight Song"...

Maroon 5 drop in at #29 with "Feelings", the fifth single from their V album. The first, "Maps", went to #1 on this format. "Feelings" is also up to #17 on the Adult Pop list...

Canadian rock veteran Bryan Adams is back at #30 with "Brand New Day", the second release from his Get Up! album. Adams topped the AC chart for eight weeks with "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" in 1991 and for five with "Have You Really Loved A Woman" in 1995...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey. I'll be back in 90 with the latest on rock radio...
