Pop Sweep: October 24, 2015...


It's time to kick off the first of this week's "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making their way on to the various singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start out on the pop side of things, then later on bring out the latest in rock, R&B, country and dance music. And away we goooooo...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of sales (like iTunes and AmazonMP3), internet streaming (like Spotify and Youtube), and radio airplay from all formats, The Weeknd remains on top for a fourth week with "The Hills"...

Detroit rapper/singer DeJ Loaf nabs her third Hot 100 hit at #80 with "Back Up" featuring Big Sean. Earlier in the year she was a featured performer on Kid Ink's "Be Real", which peaked at #43...

The fourth radio hit from Sam Hunt's Montevallo album, "Break Up In A Small Town", drops in at #90. The second, the crossover single "Take Your Time", reached #20 on this chart and all three priors made the top-40...


Sibling act Brothers Osborne score their first Hot 100 appearance at #99 with their top-20 country hit "Stay A Little Longer"...


..and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Justin Bieber claims his first #1 hit with "What Do You Mean?"...

As Demi Lovato's former #3 hit "Cool For The Summer" drops like the autumn temperature to #12, her new single "Confident" leaps in at #26...


While another Disney alumnus, Nick Jonas, is up at #15 with "Levels", his brother Joe's new band, DNCE, makes its debut at #37 with "Cake By The Ocean", my "Pop Pick of the Week"...


Norwegian pop/soul duo Nico & Vinz return at #38 with "That's How You Know" featuring rapper Kid Ink and singer Bebe Rexha. The pair went to #1 on this chart in the summer of 2014 with "Am I Wrong"...


OMI, the Jamaican reggae-pop artist that ruled the summer airwaves this year with "Cheerleader", is back at #39 with "Hula Hoop"...


Indie-pop singer/songwriter Halsey, from northwestern New Jersey, comes in at #40 with "New Americana"...


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, X Ambassadors jump to the top with their #1 rock hit "Renegades"...

British singer/songwriter James Bay sails in at #38 with "Let It Go". It's the followup to his breakthrough hit "Hold Back The River", which climbed to #16 at this format...


Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening", radio chart, Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" reigns for a fifth week, and there are no new entries on the chart...
