Songoftheday 9/8/15 - Well there's a lone wolf out on the prowl tonight Lurkin' in the shadows, always out of sight...

"Notorious" - Loverboy
from the album Wildside (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's SOTD comes from the Canadian rock band Loverboy, who were last seen with their contribution to the successful Top Gun soundtrack, "Heaven In Your Eyes". In 1987, they released their fifth album Wildside, preceded by the single "Notorious". Co-written by the group's Mike Reno and Paul Dean along with Bon Jovi's Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora as well as song doctor Todd Cerney, the Bruce Fairbarn-produced track checked all the normal rock-radio boxes that fit Loverboy's normal pattern of "going out for a good time", though you definitely hear the "Jovi" in this song...

"Notorious" would go on to be Loverboy's ninth and final top-40 pop hit in America in October of 1987, while climbing all the way to #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. In their native Canada, it did a little better, stopping at #24 (same as "Heaven..." did).

None of the other singles from the album did anything, and after a hits set with a minor American pop hit with "Too Hot", Loverboy would split up after touring behind the album. However after a successful reunion tour in the 90's, they have been periodically releasing new music since, their latest, Unfinished Business, in 2014.
