"I've Been In Love Before" - Cutting Crew
from the album Broadcast (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's SOTD comes from the British new wave band Cutting Crew, who had scored a pair of hits in America from their debut album with "One For The Mockingbird" and the #1 "(I Just) Died In Your Arms".  For their third single the group released the ballad "I've Been In Love Before", written by lead singer Nick van Eede...

"I've Been In Love Before" became Cutting Crew's second and final top-10 pop hit in America in November of 1987, while climbing all the way to #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, their biggest on that format. Internationally, the record made it to #8 in Canada, and top-30 in Ireland and the UK.

The band released their second album The Scattering in 1989, but the lead single "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" missed the top-40 in both America (#77) and their native Britain (#66). They did manage a big adult contemporary hit at #4 from the set with "Everything But My Pride" and a top-20 follow-up with "The Last Thing" in 1990. After their third album tanked, the band broke up, with Van Eede assembling a new "Cutting Crew" to tour and record with in the naughties.
