Songoftheday 8/9/15 - Two hearts two of a kind, love at first sight why do they say love is blind...

"One Heartbeat" - Smokey Robinson
from the album One Heartbeat (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's SOTD comes from soul icon Smokey Robinson, who made a big comeback in 1987 with his Motown single "Just To See Her". He was also feted that year on new wave group ABC's "When Smokey Sings". Smokey's follow-up was the title track to his album, "One Heartbeat", written by Steve LeGassick and Brian Ray, and went down the same easy-listening path...

"One Heartbeat" became the second top-10 pop hit from the same-named album in October of 1987. The single also made it to #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, and #3 on their R&B list. It would be his most recent appearance in the pop top-40; the following year he came close as a featured guest on Kenny G's "We Saved The Best For Last" (#47 pop, #18 R&B, #4 adult contemporary). Although his next album Everything You Touch didn't return him to pop radio, the title track hit #4 on the R&B list and #2 AC. In 1991, his single "Double Good Everything" nicked the Hot 100 at #91, his latest hit there, as well as his last top-40 R&B hit at #23. He's been release minor hits independently since, with "Love Bath" popping on the soul chart for a week in 2010.
