Rock Sweep: August 1, 2015...


Round two of this week's "music sweeps" is up, checking out the songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine, and this time out I've got the latest hits on rock radio....

On their main Rock Airplay chart, "Renegades" from the X Ambassadors holds tight on top for a fifth week...

Singer/songwriter Halsey, from the New Jersey town of Washington, makes her debut at #40 with "New Americana". She's been opening for Imagine Dragons on tour...

Indie-soul artist Leon Bridges takes his Triple-A hit "Coming Home" to the main rock list at #43...


Last week "The Ghosts Of Beverly Drive" from Death Cab For Cutie came in at #50, and moves to #44 this time out. It's up at #32 on the Alternative chart...


British trip-hop group Glass Animals climb from #48 to #46 with "Black Mambo", which is at #27 at Alternative...


(one more entry from last week, "Gravity" from Papa Roach, falls out this week...)

And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, British heavy metal duo Royal Blood scored their first #1 hit last week with "Little Monster", only to be deposed this time out by Halestorm's "Amen" (that band's third chart-topper)...

The #1 before Royal Blood was "Failure" from hard rock band Breaking Benjamin, who rocked in last week with their new single at #33, "Angels Fall", which moves to #25 this week...


Nu-metal vets Trapt are back with their new track "Passenger", which climbs from #39 to #35 in its second week...


Swedish "doom metal" act Ghost B.C. nab their first hit in the States with "Cirice" at #36...


Welsh thrash-metal rockers Bullet For My Valentine hold at #38 for a second week with "You Want A Battle? (Here's A War)". Back in 2010 they went to #5 here with "Your Betrayal"...


Scranton-based metalcore group Motionless in White arrive at #39 with "Unstoppable". Last year they topped out at #24 with "Reincarnate"...


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, "Renegades" is on top for a sixth week, while the Death Cab For Cutie track moves from #40 to #32 in its second week...

Last week indietronica artist Robert Delong followed up his excellent "Long Way Down" single (a top-3 hit here) with "Don't Wait Up" at #34. This week it moves up a notch to #33...


South African indie-rock band Civil Twilight moves in at #40 with "Holy Dove". Back in 2012 they went to #21 with "Fire Escape"...


Lastly, on the Triple-A (Adult Album Alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Beck's "Dreams" reigns for a fourth week...

ARCS, the side project from the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, jumped in last week at #22 with "Outta My Mind", which finds itself at #17 this time out...


Michael Franti & Spearhead return at #22 with "Once A Day" featuring British singer/songwriter Sonna Rele, , and the positive-vibe jam becomes my "Rock Pick of the Week"...


My Morning Jacket follow up their #7 hit "Big Decisions" with "Compound Fracture", which scales from #28 to #26 this week...


Australian psychedelic band Tame Impala slip in at #30 with "Let It Happen"...
