Rock Sweep: January 31, 2015...


Round two of today's "chart sweeps" is up as I check out the songs making the charts in Billboard magazine. This time up I've got the latest hits on rock radio...

On the main Rock Airplay chart, The Foo Fighters remain at #1 for a thirteenth week with "Something From Nothing"...

The top newbie of the week at #29 is "Weight Of Love", the third single from the alt-rock duo the Black Keys. The track also jumps to that same rank on the Alternative rock list in its second week. Their lead single from Turn Blue, "Fever", topped this chart last year...

Halestorm a hard rock band from central Pennsylvania, returns at #40 with "Apocalyptic", the lead track from their upcoming third studio album Into The Wild Life. They previously went to #15 with "I Miss The Misery" in 2012...


Texan industrial metal act Nothing More lands their second hit on this list as "Mr. MTV" beams in at #48. It also climbs to #13 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Their last single, "(This Is The Time) Ballast", reached #18 here...


Reggae rockers Dirty Heads are at #50 with "Sound Of Change", which also moves up to #25 on the Alternative chart. It follows "My Sweet Summer", which made it to #7 on this list...


And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel "Something From Nothing" stays on top for a thirteenth week, while the aforementioned Halestorm track claims the top new entry at #17...

 Kid Rock returns at #31 with "First Kiss". Back in 2007 he peaked at #2 with "So Hott"...


Post-hardcore band Islander score their second charting single as "New Wave" moves in at #38. Their last, "Coconut Dracula", made it to #23 last year...


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart,  Cage The Elephant jumps to #1 with "Cigarette Daydreams", making it their fifth #1 hit on this format...

German indie-folk rock duo Milky Chance follows up their #1 hit "Stolen Dance" (which falls to #5) with the song at #34, "Flashed Junk Mind"...


 Australian electronica artist Chet Faker enters at #38 with "Gold", a former top-40 pop hit in his native country, and my , my "Rock Pick of the Week"...


 Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, George Ezra holds at #1 for a ninth week with "Budapest"...

The sole debut at #27 is Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy with "Mess Is Mine". His breakthough hit "Riptide" climbed to #7 on this list. This new one also moves up to #22 on the Alternative rock list in its sixth week, and #32 on the main Rock Airplay chart...
