Rock Sweep: January 3, 2015...


Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, checking out the songs making the various radio and club charts in Billboard magazine. This time out it's the newest tracks on rock radio....

On the main Rock Airplay list, The Foo Fighters remain at #1 for a ninth week with "Something From Nothing"...

Rocketing in at #14 is indie rock band Modest Mouse with "Lampshades On Fire", my "Rock Pick of the Week".  It's from their upcoming album Strangers To Ourselves, their first since 2007.

Irish alt-rock singer/songwriter Hozier comes in at #41 with "From Eden". The song, which is at #2 on the Triple-A format, is the follow-up to his breakthrough single "Take Me To Church", which stands at #3 on this list..


The Smashing Pumpkins are also back at #47 with "One And All". The iconic alternative band popped in at #45 in 2012 with "The Celestials". The new one is at #39 on the Mainstream Rock radio chart...


Actress Taylor Momsen's rock band The Pretty Reckless rock in at #50 with "Follow Me Down", the third American single from their Going To Hell album. The first, "Heaven Knows", peaked at #10 on this chart, and this one is already up to #15 on the Mainstream Rock format...


And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel "Something From Nothing" remains on top for a ninth week...

The high debut of the week at #33 marks the return of goth-rocker Marilyn Manson with "Deep Six". The band's first chart hit was twenty years ago in 1994; but although they've had fourteen hits, none have made it into the top-ten. The closest he's come so far is with 1998's #12 hit "The Dope Show"...


 British metalcore act Bring Me The Horizon make it in at #38 with "Drown". Last year they peaked at #14 with "Sleepwalking"...


Nu-metal band Linkin Park's fourth single from their Hunting Party CD, "Final Masquerade", sneaks in at #40. It follows "Rebellion", which falls from its peak of #15 this week..


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, The Foo Fighters stay at #1 for a fifth week, while the aforementioned Modest Mouse single leaps in at #15...

Young the Giant enter at #37 with "Crystallized". It's the follow-up to "Mind Over Matter", which peaked at #17 on this format...


Canadian hard rock group Three Days Grace's "I Am Machine", which stands at #5 on the Mainstream Rock chart, crosses over to this format at #39. They've been to #1 three times on this chart...



Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, George Ezra is on top for a fifth week with "Budapest", while "Lampshades On Fire" from Modest Mouse arrives at #24...

Ryan Adams comes in at #26 with his cover of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me"...




Newcomer Elle King debuts at #28 with "Ex's and Oh's"...


Indie-folk artist Father John Misty (aka J. Tillman from Maryland) makes his first entrance at #30 with "Chateau Lobby #4 (In C For Two Virgins)"...
