Pop Sweep: November 22, 2014...


It's time to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making their debut on the various radio and club charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start out on the pop side of things, then later in the day move on to the newest in rock, R&B, country, and dance...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of radio airplay of all genres, internet streaming (like YouTube and Spotify), and sales, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" reigns for a fourth non-consecutive week.

Rocketing into the chart in the top-40 at #25 is Selena Gomez with "The Heart Wants What It Wants". The song comes from her upcoming greatest hits set. She made the top-10 last year with "Come And Get It"...

While British boy-band One Direction climb to #32 with their current radio single "Steal My Girl", another preview track from their Four album, "Ready To Run", enters at #77. (there's no official clip for this one yet)...

Canadian teen idol Shawn Mendes lands arrives at #92 with "Something Big". It follows his debut single, "Life Of The Party", which peaked at #24...


Country singer Brett Eldredge lands his third single from his debut album on the Hot 100 as "Mean To Me" enters at #95. His first, "Don't Ya", climbed to #30...


Alt-rocker turned country star Darius Rucker also enters the big chart at #97 with "Homegrown Honey", from his upcoming fifth solo album. Apart from Hootie & The Blowfish, Rucker has reached the top-40 here five times, with "Wagon Wheel" rolling up to #15 last year...


The final newbie on the Hot 100 at #98 is alt-rock band Walk The Moon with "Shut Up And Dance", my "Pop Pick of the Week". Their third rock hit is their first to cross over to the pop list...


...and now on to the pop radio format charts..

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)" stays at #1 for a second week...

Jessie J follows up her collaboration hit "Bang Bang", which falls from its peak of #2 to #3 this week, with "Burnin' Up", featuring rapper 2 Chainz at #37...


Another British singer, Ella Henderson, comes in at #38 with "Ghost". The song spent a couple weeks at #1 in the UK...


Rounding things out at #40 is R&B singer/songwriter Trey Songs with "Lovin' Touchin'" featuring Nicki Minaj. It's the second pop hit from his #1 Trigga album; "Na Na" went to #28 earlier this year...


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, "Shake It Off" is on top for a seventh week...

Calvin Harris takes his #1 dance radio hit "Blame" to this format at #35. It follows "Summer", which made it to #11 on this chart...


Las Vegas-based Modern Rock band Imagine Dragons return at #39 with "I Bet My Life". It's the first single from their upcoming second album. Their first sent a pair of songs ("Radioactive" and "Demons") to #2 here...


Country crossover Lady Antebellum take their #1 country hit "Bartender" to this list at #40. They went all the way to #1 with "Need You Now"...


Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" radio chart, Taylor Swift climbs to the top with "Shake It Off". It's her fourth single to top this format; the most recent time was with "Mine" in 2010...

The sole debut at #30 is Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz with "In Your Arms". Their breakthrough hit "Am I Wrong" went to #1 and sits at #3 this week...
