Rock Sweep: October 25, 2014...


Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, with the latest songs on rock radio as monitored by Billboard magazine....

On their main Rock Airplay chart, Milky Chance spends a third week on top with "Stolen Dance"...

The highest debut of the week up at #24 signals the return of heavy metal giants AC/DC with "Play Ball", the first single from their upcoming 15th album Rock or Bust. It's their first without rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who has been battling major health issues, and it's my "Rock Pick of the Week"...

Indie-rock singer/songwriter Banks debuts at #47 with "Beggin' For Thread", which moves up to #30 on the Alternative chart...


Canadian post-grunge band Three Days Grace enter at #50 with "I Am Machine", which also leaps from #30 to #16 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The song follows their first with new lead singer Matt Walst, "Painkiller", which peaked at #14 on this chart...


...and now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Nickelback move up to #1 with "Edge Of A Revolution". It's their eighth to go to the top of this chart, dating back from 2001's "How You Remind Me". Also, the aforementioned "Play Ball" from AC/DC rockets in at #14....

Atlanta-based metal act Mastodon plods in at #36 with "The Motherload". It's the second single from their current Once More 'Round The Sun album; the first, "High Road", made it to #24...


Australian hard rock band Flyleaf are in at #38 with "Set Me On Fire". It's also in the top-40 on the Christian Songs chart. So far their first hit on this chart, "I'm So Sick" in 2002, has been their highest rank at #12. This new one is their first featuring new lead singer Kristen May...


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, "Stolen Dance" is on top for a fifth week...

The sole new entry on this list at #40 is Jack White with "Would You Fight For My Love?". It follows the title track from his latest disc, "Lazaretto", which peaked at #9...


Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") radio format, Spoon's "Do You" is at #1 for a second week...

Brooklyn indie-rockers TV On The Radio land at #25 with "Happy Idiot". Back in 2011 they made it to #18 on this format with "Will Do"...


Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers took their single "U Get Me High" to #2 on this format. Now they're back at #26 with "Forgotten Man"...


Cage The Elephant are in at #28 with their "Cigarette Daydreams"...


...and finally at #30 is Big Data with their former #1 modern rock hit "Dangerous"...
