Pop Sweep: October 25, 2014...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the various singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start off on the pop side of things, then later in the day move on to the latest on rock, R&B, country, and dance radio...and away we go....

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of sales, internet streaming (like subscription services like Spotify or on-demand sites like YouTube), and radio airplay from all genres, Meghan Trainor stands firm at #1 for a sixth week with "All About That Bass", as the top-5 is again all female for the record-extending sixth week...

The (dubiously) highest debut of the week at #26 is the product of another "viral video" by late night talk show host and comedian Jimmy Fallon, who dons some bad drag and drags in will.i.am for "Ew!" at #26. I guess this is this generation's Chunky A, right? More Ugh! than Ew!.

The fifth preview track from country crossover duo Florida Georgia Line's second album, "Sippin' On Fire", blazes in at #62. The current radio single, "Dirt", climbs to #1 on the country airplay chart and sits at #29 on the Hot 100...

While Ed Sheeran's radio hit "Don't" climbs up to #13 on this list, another song from his x album, "Thinking Out Loud", pops in at #69...

Swedish DJ and producer Avicii teams up with British pop star Robbie Williams at #78 for the first single from his upcoming second album, "The Days". His first, True, sent three songs to the Hot 100, with "Wake Me Up" going all the way to #4. This new one is my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

One rung below that at #79 is the third single from Ariana Grande's second album My Everything. "Love Me Harder" features a cameo from alt-hip-hop hero the Weeknd. The first two from the set went top-10, with "Problem" topping off at the #2 spot...

Country musician Brad Paisley returns at #85 with "Perfect Storm", the second release from his Moonshine In The Trunk album. The first, "River Bank", made it to #54...

As will.i.am makes the top-40 this week, his Black Eyed Peas bandmate Fergie lands at #97 with her horrific dump of a record "L.A. Love (La, La)". Her debut album sent five singles into the top-5, and more recently she was on the chart with "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" which went to #77...

Rapper Yo Gotti comes in at #98 with "Errbody". It's his fourth on the Hot 100; back in 2009 he climbed to #79 with "5 Star"...

The last new one on the main pop chart at #100 is Kid Ink's "Body Language" featuring Usher and Tinashe. Last year his "Show Me" peaked at #13...

...and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Taylor Swift jumps to #1 with "Shake It Off". It's her third #1 on this pop radio chart after "Love Story" and "I Knew You Were Trouble"...

French dance music master David Guetta is in at #35 with "Dangerous" featuring Sam Martin. It's the first song from his upcoming Listen album to make this chart...

Rapper Kendrick Lamar enters at #36 with "i"...

The aforementioned "Love Me Harder" from Ariana Grande is in at #38...

Pop singer/songwriter Charli XCX follows up her former #1 hit "Boom Clap" (which sits at #10 this week) with "Break The Rules" at #39...

Former teen queen Hilary Duff returns at #40 with "All About You". Ten years ago at 17 years old she went to #9 with "Come Clean"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, "Shake It Off" is on top for a third week..

Fall Out Boy are in at #37 with their latest, "Centuries". Their "Sugar We're Goin Down" went to #10 on this format in 2005...

Modern rock act Big Data cross over to this format at #38 with "Dangerous" featuring Joywave. They went to #1 on the Alternative Rock chart with this awesome track...

Aussie rapstress Iggy Azalea follows up her "Fancy" (which is at #39 here) with "Black Widow" at #40, featuring Rita Ora...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, Nico & Vinz hold on to #1 for a fifth week with "Am I Wrong"...

Veteran Detroit rocker Bob Seger arrives at #29 with "You Take Me In". He went to #1 on this format with "Shame On The Moon" in 1983...

..as British neo-house act Clean Bandit make it on to this list at #30 with their former Hot 100 top-ten hit "Rather Be"...

That's all for the first part of today's musical trip..I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
